I read of a little boy who came into his house one day, and he said, “Mother, if you'll give me $5.00I'll be a good boy today." She looked at him and said, “Why can't you be good for nothing, like your daddy?”

Mark 10:18 declares: And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.” Therefore, true Goodness cannot be purchased, earned, manipulated, or bartered because it is a gift from God that must be shared.  James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

Notice that God is the Father of lights, plural! Who are these lights? First, I believe One is the Lord Jesus! John 8:12 says, “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 9:5, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” However, Jesus in no longer in the world, but before His ascension, Jesus said to His disciples in John 16:7, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”

Jesus did return to His glory in Heaven and sent us the Comforter, His Holy Spirit, the Light who now dwells in us! Therefore, we are to walk in the lightEphesians 5:8 says, “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:” We believers, the children of our Heavenly Father, are the other lights of whom Scripture speaks.

Matthew 5:14 goes on to say to the child of God that, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Jesus says in v.15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house." You see, the third stanza in the song, “This Little Light of Mine” says, “Jesus gave it to me, I'm gonna’ let it shine. Jesus gave it to me, I'm gonna’ let it shine. let it shine, let it shine, oh let it shine.

Now it is OUR responsibility, because of such great need, to share this invaluable Light in the spiritual darkness of this world. Romans 13:12 declares, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

In 2022, may we not just be good for something, but let’s be good for Someone, our Lord and Savior, by carrying the Light in this darkened world.  Only then will it truly be a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

From My Heart,

Bro. John
